IS THERE MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS?

That is the question being asked of Canadians this summer in a bi-lingual, million dollar national advertising campaign on buses, billboards and transit shelters.

The thought provoking question is to form the basis of Canada ’s biggest ever Christian advertising initiative. The campaign forms a backdrop to an invitation from hundreds of churches of all backgrounds to the people of Canada to come to dinner and an Alpha course this fall.

About a million people in Canada and more than ten million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, no-pressure setting.

“I think Alpha is so popular” says Sally Start, the Canadian Director of Alpha “because the course provides a unique opportunity for real discussion around spiritual matters – important issues of life that matter to all of us. There’s no preaching and everyone’s opinions, and ideas are valued.”

Alpha is designed primarily for non-churchgoers and is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting, over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions. Each week guests enjoy a meal, and a talk on subjects as diverse as “Who is Jesus?” “What Does the Holy Spirit Do?” and “How Can I Make the Most of the Rest of My Life?” It is low-key, friendly and fun – and is supported by all parts of the Christian church.

“There will almost certainly be a course running in most neighbourhoods across Canada this fall,” says Start “and everyone is welcome to come and check it out. The first evening takes the form of an introductory dinner so you can see if Alpha might be for you. You can find out more by going to www.alphacanada.org .

Ottawa Invitation

Some of you will remember the 2003 Initiative.

From 1 August 2007, you will see a burst of Alpha energy around the region as billboards and other advertizing are hoisted. This is all with one objective: so that when you invite a friend to one of the local Alpha introductory dinners in September, they are more likely to say "yes," a yes that could be the most important decision they ever took.

So watch this space, where we will announce all aspects of the Invitation. But don't rely on us - take the initiative in your church or community to speak with other churches in your neighbourhood, and collaborate in getting the word out, in your introductory dinner, and even in your Holy Spirit weekend. That's what this is all about.

Promo kits (and idividual items) are still available from 800-743-0899 containing a large banner, car flags, and other advertizing materials. Time to move!

The billboard, transit shelter and bus ads are now on display right across the country from St. John's to Victoria.

We can each do our part and ask God to do what only He can do:

Ø Pray, pray, pray to the Lord of the harvest to release His Spirit on Canada!

Ø Put up your church banners (indoor and out)

Ø Fly an Alpha car flag

Ø Use the door hanger invitations down your street or in your apartments

Ø Be sure to always have a business card invitation in your pocket, wallet or purse

Ø Pass out invitations to friends and neighbours at summer events

Ø Select and train terrific Alpha teams

Ø Register your course at www.alphacanada.org

Ø Pray, pray, pray that God will move in the hearts of the people of Canada!

Dear Pastors and Lay Leaders,

This year's Fall Invitation is going to be HUGE!!! There has been a 1.5 million dollar donation for advertisement. There will be billboards, bus shelter ads and flags for our cars. If anyone remembers the response to the Alpha Initiative in 2003 - this will be BIGGER!!!

So please consider joining the many churches and organizations that have committed to hold an Alpha Course in the Ottawa area this fall and / or next spring. The current edition of Alpha News describes the Alpha 2007 Invitation.

Let's show Ottawa how Churches can join together to promote the Gospel in our community.
